Purpose Built Facility
The nursery facility itself comprises two adapted houses, two
purpose built extensions, a main play area, a car park and a separate
community room building. In fact the main building alone totals
more than 300 square metres!
Utilising our Neighbourhood Nursery Initiative Funding we were
able to invest heavily in both the premises and the equipment.
Each one of the four base rooms has been beautifully decorated
and fully equipped to meet the development needs of its particular
age group. Each room has its own team of staff, headed by a room
leader who is responsible for organising the experiences and
activities on a weekly basis. Each room works to a varied timetable
that fits within the overall daily routine that has been designed
to ensure that the nursery runs smoothly and the children feel
comfortable and secure.
Baby Room
The environment has been specially designed to reflect a homely
environment and to encourage your baby’s development in
all areas. From the low level furniture to aid independency and
mobility, to the comfy sofa that reflects the comfort and safety
of home, to a separate sleep area that enables rest. The team
provides a wide range of experiences to stimulate your baby,
which of course includes lots of individual and personal attention.
We endeavour to care for our babies in a way that complements
their home environment and allows them to follow their own feed
and sleep routine.
First Steps Room

This spacious room has designated areas for a variety of busy
and calm activities, including home corner, construction area,
sand and water play as well as many opportunities for creative
and messy play. There is also a warm and quiet area for reading
stories, calm one-to-one sessions and sleep time. The children
are encouraged to share and develop their hand-eye coordination and communication
skills through jigsaws and games, stories, nursery rhymes, songs and musical
instruments.
Toddler Room

This room has been carefully organised to optimise the learning experiences
available and provides many opportunities for both planned and spontaneous
activities. This is a well resourced provision with age appropriate puzzles
and games, a reading corner, construction equipment, sand and water play,
a creative area, home corner and early maths and literacy areas. These children
are encouraged to paint, draw and engage in a wide range of creative activities,
and in quieter moments they are encouraged to read books and play with jigsaws.
This room follows “Birth To Three Matters” whilst drawing upon
elements of the “Foundation Stage” curriculum.
Pre-School

This bright and colourful room has defined learning areas that enable structured
play provision. The planned activity timetable encompasses the 6 key areas
of learning with the aim being to make learning a fun, exciting and enjoyable
experience. Each child is treated as an individual, is assessed as to their
own capabilities and is encouraged to develop at their own pace to reach
their true potential. As well as all of the learning experiences you would
expect, this room also offers an introduction to information technology through
the use of TV and video, a listening centre and a computer with age appropriate
software.
Outdoor Facilities
A grass and patio area at the rear provides ample
space for a variety of outdoor play equipment. Weather permitting, all children
have access to the outdoor facilities and our approach ensures that the outdoor
area complements what is happening indoors so that the children’s learning
is more encompassing. As we all know, young children are naturally active
and the outdoor provision provides plenty of room for this healthy growth
and development!
Location
Learning also takes place outside the walls of the nursery. Our unique
location (see map) ensures that we can take advantage of trips out to the
park, which is to the rear of the property, and Edgbaston Reservoir, which
is to the front of the property, and of course parents are also encouraged
to join in. Our location is also unique because we are not overlooked by
any other properties.
Special Needs
Leaps and Bounds is committed to supporting children with Special Educational
Needs and operates an inclusive environment. We have an exceptional Special
Needs Co-ordinator who is fully qualified with experience of a number of
different health and educational needs.
